Happy Holidays! I hope you all had a nice Christmas filled with an appropriate amount of delicious beer (and other delicious treats too). 🙂
I ran into Steve Donahue, the head brewer/co-owner at Santa Clara Valley Brewing last week and we got to chatting about the ever postponed brew in at SCVB.
He expressed interest in doing a collaboration brew with WoW in preparation for SF beer week that is coming up in February. He was already thinking that he’d like to have something different on tap at SCVB for SFBW, so this is just the right mechanism to making that happen. But, that does mean we have to brew soon….like really soon. Like Saturday January 13.
I’d like to suggest we go forward on this and make it happen. The timing is good and SCVB is excited. Anyone is available to join us for brew day and take home some wort. This includes members from other local homebrew clubs too – we just need to keep track of how much wort we take so we can re-pay SCVB.
However, spots are limited, so you’ll have to sign up soon to ensure your spot.

The wort will be nice brown ale as our base. Very flexible and manipulatable to do whatever you’d like with it.
REQUEST! We really want this to be a collaboration between SCVB and WoW, so if you have a brown ale that you’ve brewed that is excellent, dig up your recipe and your notes. In the next few days, I’ll be starting a separate email thread with a brown ale recipe for review. We need your tips, your tricks, what you’ve liked in brown ales, what you haven’t. What do you want out of the WoW / SCVB Collab brown ale? This is our beer just as much as it is SCVBs, so let’s own it.
What: Collaborate on a brown ale with SCVB to be served during SFBW in February
Where: Santa Clara Valley Brewing
When: Saturday Jan 13 (time TBD…likely ~8-9am)
Cost: $30* per 5 gal of wort you take home (*exact amount is dependent on final recipe and how many people sign up, but this is a maximum amount)
